Stingray Allstars Tryout Info

The Stingray Allstars Tryout Dates and Times 2008-2009

Mini and Youth Entering 6th Grade and under: Friday April 18th Check In at 5:00 p.m. Tryouts 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Junior Entering 7th-9th Grade: Saturday April 19th Check In at 9:00 a.m. Tryouts 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Immediately following each tryout session there will be a flyer clinic. Flyers will be able to demonstrate flexibility, dismounts, baskets, etc. Your attendance or absence will not guarantee/prevent you from flying during the season.

Team placements will be posted on the website by Tuesday April 29th, 2008.

Tryout Fee $50.00 if completed paperwork is turned into gym office by Monday April 14th.

Packets received after Monday April 14th will be charged a $75.00 tryout fee.

There will be a new parent meeting on April 16th at 7:00 p.m. This is an informational meeting for those new to The Stingray Allstars. Feel free to bring your questions!

CORAL CHAMPS!

What an AMAZING weekend!!! The girls looked amazing, their performance was amazing, the lunch situation was NOT amazing, but they went back and had another amazing performance! Wow...what a feeling!

Incase Sherri and I were unable to let you know on Sunday, I wanted to let everyone know about this Tuesday. The coaches would like to do something special for the girls and have an official end of the year get together. They will probably have a cookie cake and just let the girls spend one last time together as a team. This is not going to be anything fancy. It will be at 5:00 PM at Stingrays. the girls can wear whatever they choose...Courtney will probably wear her Coral tee. Also, the coaches loved their gifts they received from Coral (bath and body works gift baskets and $200 VISA gift cards). Sherri snuck them into their room in Birmingham so they were surprised when they got there. Thanks Sherri!

The following girls need to be sure to wash and bring part of their uniform on Tuesday so we can swap back. Thank you for being so flexible and understanding:

Jeff (Madison's dad) videoed the competition and has graciously volunteered to transfer the video to dvd's for us. We will work out the details as how to and when we will distribute these.

More Competition Reminders

WOW!! What an amazing turn out for the exhibition and the girls were simply stunning!!! Now parents, it's time for us to work on our enthusiasm! Everytime the girls hear us cheering, screaming and see us jumping up and down going crazy...they will be that much louder and pumped!! I know this may be way out of some of our comfort zones but it's only for 2 1/2 minutes. Besides, it's for our precious girls!

All times given for the meetings, competition, etc. will be ALABAMA time.

LAST PRACTICE:
This Saturday, 10 - 11:30ish (if they do awesome) or 12:00. Please be sure to be at Stingrays by 11:30am to pick up your cheerleader incase we get out early. Wear black shorts and white tank.

Remember - we have an 8pm meeting Saturday night in the Sheraton Lobby - I strongly encourage you to arrive in Birmingham early enough to check-in and grab a bite to eat before the meeting. Don't forget - 8pm Alabama time is 9pm our time - that will make for a long day for everyone (and an early morning) so we want the kids to go to bed soon after the meeting is adjourned!!!

Hotel:
Be sure you have either your credit card, cash or whatever method of payment for the hotel room. Stingrays booked but they are not paying for the rooms. (Sorry guys but Roger wanted to make sure I told you that)

Competition Procedures

• Meet in Sheraton Lobby at 8:00am Sunday in FULL uniform with hair done and makeup on, ready to go.
• They will need to have eaten breakfast before this as we will NOT have the opportunity for them to do this before competing. Roger said we are attached to the convention center so we will walk over to the competition. The girls will stay together and coaches will register them. Robin and Katie will probably go to the coaches meeting at 9:15. They will meet the girls as soon as it is over and take them to warm-ups.
• Warm up time is 10:45 and they compete at 11:15.
• After they compete they will be free to go with their parents, eat lunch, whatever they need to do. Stay in uniform!
• We will meet again at 1:00pm (meeting place will be determined once there).
• We will go to warm-ups again at 2:20 and compete at 2:50.
• Most likely the team will all sit together until the end of the competition so we can then go up for awards.
• When the children go up for awards they are to be in full uniform with no bags, stuffed animals, game systems, etc. They will look competition ready when they receive their award.
  
  While to Coaches are registering the girls and attending their meeting, Sherri and Jenn will remain with them to keep them together. Parents are more than welcome to stay with us or you may choose to go and get a seat. Once we have the girls, they will NOT be able to leave us to run back to their parents for any reason before warm-ups!
  

NO PRACTICE TUESDAY

But some tumbling classes are still being held so check with the front office to see if your tumbling coach is having class!

Regular Practice Wednesday at 5pm and DRESS Rehearsal Exhibition at 6:30pm

Bows and T's will be handed out at practice Wednesday!

SOCKS

Don't forget to get NO SHOW socks for competition. Stingrays is out of stock. I got mine at Rack Room in the mall... Walmart or Target will also have a varying selection...

We will meet at 8pm in the lobby of the Sheraton on Saturday evening. Be prepared for a short practice after the meeting.

Competition Week Reminders

1. NO PRACTICE on Tuesday, March 25th
2. Regular Practice Wednesday, March 26 from 5 - 7pm
3. Exhibition is set for Wednesday, March 26th - arrive before 6:30pm or you may miss the SHOW! Please invite all friends and family, as our girls LOVE showing off their accomplishments. Also, don't forget their uniform.
4. BOWS/Headbands and T-shirts will be handed out at practice on Wednesday
5. Regarding pre-payment for rooms... we have been advised to pay upon check in Saturday
6. EXTRA PRACTICE on Saturday morning 10am - 12pm... black shorts and white top
7. MANDITORY Team Meeting scheduled at Birmingham SHERATON LOBBY 7pm Saturday... plan on eating before as the coaches will be having a mini-practice with the girls after the meeting.
   
8. On another note, Jenn did have an emergency appendectomy last week. It was quite unexpected and she is recovering well. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! Jenn will be at practice Wednesday....

Competition Updates

There are a few adjustments to the previous email reagrding our competition that I need to make you aware of.

1. Due to the limited number of teams registered for the competition Mar 29 - 30, WCA has changed the competition to Sunday, Mar 30th ONLY. There are only 25 teams registered, thus far. We do not know how many are registered for our division.

2. Because of this change, Stingrays is going to be updating our block of rooms. We no longer will need to check-in on Friday night so all rooms will be for Saturday night. Roger asked me to send him an updated room list so he could make the change for us. If anyone needs any additional rooms, please let me know.

3. DO NOT plan anything for the morning of Saturday, March 29. There is a very big possibility of us having practice (at Stingrays, NOT in Birmingham), especially since not everyone will be able to make practice Easter weekend. Again, keep Saturday, March 29 from 10 - 12ish open for the possibility of practice. This will be left up to the coaches discretion. Some of the girls have already started asking if we could do a caravan to Birmingham; we're up for it so if anyone else wants to leave from Stingrays we'll be following ya! Just be sure you have the right directions.

4. Thank you to everyone who has already given us their dues for shirts, bows, etc!!! Rmember, we need all money by the end of practice on Wed., March 19. The bows are going to look awesome!!!

5. I'm tired and can't think of anything else. If you have any questions, just let me know! And before I forget, I do not know the exact day that our bows or shirts will arrive but I promise, they will arrive...eventually

NO Practice on Tuesday, March 25!!!!!

We are staying at the Sheraton in Birmingham

Hello everyone!

Just got word from Stingrays that our rooms have been booked. We will be staying at the Sheraton, which is connected to the Convention Center. YEAH no driving!!!

Rates are $115 per night. If anyone chooses to cancel their reservation, you will be responsible for any cancellation fees. I will find out next week regarding payment and will forward on to you.

MEETING NOTES

Extra Practices scheduled for Saturday, March 15 and 22 from 10am - 12pm

From here until we compete at the end of the month - you must be at practice on time - any missed practices will result in a forfiet of your cheerleaders position

We will have an exhibition/dress rehearsal on Wendesday, March 26 towards the end of practice - 6 or 6:30ish... be sure to arrive before 6:30pm or you will miss the routine. Hopefully, we will have the details for our "competition weekend" at this practice

IN Birmingham... we will have a team meeting at the hotel where the majority of the team is staying(~7pm) - if you are booked in another hotel, you need to make sure you get here for the meeting... after the meeting the coaches will review the routine with the girls and go over some competition details

MAKE-UP will be Natural... (mascara, eye shadow, blush, sticky lip gloss or colorstay lipstick)

HAIR will be a high, strait ponytail - slicked back - no bangs - team bow/headband

Manditory Team Meeting

Hello everyone!

This message is from Coach Katie and Coach Robin.

There is going to be a MANDATORY parent's meeting on Tuesday, March 4 at 5:00 PM. The meeting will be held, upstairs in the "shoe room." Every girl will need atleast one representative to attend this meeting. There will be a sign in sheet to make sure every girl is accounted for.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a few things before Birmingham with regards to practices the week before, general competition information and to finalize any paperwork, as well as to answer any questions you may have. So that everyone is aware, the competition will be held at the Birmingham/Jefferson Convention Center.

Again, this meeting is MANDATORY. In order for your child to compete in Birmingham, there must be a representative for your child present at the meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Lastly, please remember to routinely check our blog.

HOTEL for Birmingham

Make sure you give Jennifer or Sherri the number of rooms you want to reserve for our competition in March. We will get a block of rooms at the same hotel - it is IMPORTANT for communication (and the girls) that we all stay at the same place. Thanks for your help with this. We will let you know the exact hotel info as soon as we get it.
